Our Story
Conservation Collective
Conservation Collective (CC) was created in 2018 by Catherine Waterbury. After spending time with her odd and uniquely successful grandfather, Catherine was empowered to pursue a career in education and social justice.
In 2018 and 2019, CC was based in Seattle, Washington, USA, and focused on collaboration with other charitable organizations. Our team wanted to support diverse causes and encourage unity by donating time and resources. Throughout this time, we volunteered and gave small grants to animal sanctuaries, wilderness educational programs, alternative construction companies, and local communities. Our board was still organizing and all of us were still actively considering CC’s future and mission.
It wasn’t long before we were inspired by the various organizations we had supported. Along with bolstering and participating in projects, we wanted to create our own! In 2020, CC moved to Northern New Mexico and purchased 50 acres of rural land that included funky, off-grid structures. We’ve been using this property to learn and share information about alternative systems like solar energy, rainwater catchment, plumbing designed to conserve water, compost, etc. Our goal is to improve the environment and quality of life within this community. In 2022, we purchased 11 acres of mountain land and a tiny house in Western North Carolina. Our goal is to make this property into a regenerative farm, a small wildlife sanctuary, and a community garden space. Learn more about our Asheville project by clicking this link:
